Metaphor: ReFantazio is considered an interesting and dynamic RPG from Atlus. However, the party structure in this game often makes players hesitate. Especially when the question is: Will there be more party members in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Come find out now!
Current Party Settings

In Metaphor: ReFantazio, the player’s party evolves throughout the game. Initially, the player controls a small party, but as the story progresses, the party grows to include up to seven characters. This structure mirrors other Atlus titles such as Persona 3. In these games, we often have several additional characters. So, the characters recruited over time make it more diverse. The game’s trailer and press release show that these characters come from various tribes in the Kingdom of Euchronia. Each character represents a different tribe, with the protagonist being one of the last members of an almost extinct tribe.
Will There Be More Than Seven Party Members?
While the game confirms up to seven main party members, it’s unclear if more could be added later. Some speculation arose from promotional material that featured room for additional characters in the game’s Roundtable. They suggested that there should be more recruits. However, this is still speculative because there has been no official confirmation regarding exceeding the limit of 7 party members.

Developers may also include non-playable characters who assist in combat or provide support, similar to the social link function in Persona. These characters may not fight alongside the player but may offer bonuses or new abilities to the main party.
Archetypes and Customization
One of the standout features of Metaphor: ReFantazio is the Archetype system. Unlike traditional class systems in RPGs, Archetypes allow for flexible character roles. You can use different Archetypes for selected party members. So, your party members can change fighting styles such as becoming healers, magic users, or physical attackers.

This customization means that although the number of party members is limited, each member can be tailored to various roles in battle, giving players the freedom to build their ideal team based on personal playing style or enemy weaknesses.
While there may only be seven core party members, the flexibility of the Archetype system ensures that players can experience a wide variety of combat combinations. A character’s base stats and growth will still impact how effective they are in a particular role, but the freedom to switch between Archetypes provides a new tactical layer.
How Party Members Influence the Story
Each party member in Metaphor: ReFantazio plays an important role in the overarching narrative. As the protagonists travel through Euchronia, these characters help shape the journey through their unique backstories and tribal affiliations. Forming bonds with party members is an important aspect of the game, as relationships influence character growth and unlock new abilities.
In contrast to Persona’s romance mechanics, the focus here seems to be on building deeper platonic bonds that have real effects in combat. As the game progresses, players will develop stronger connections with these characters, unlocking new Archetypes and abilities.
Balance Strategy and Storytelling
In Metaphor: ReFantazio, each party member has an important role in the story. Characters As the protagonists traverse Euchronia, these characters come with unique backgrounds and tribal relationships. It’s important to build bonds with these friends. In contrast to romantic ties like in Persona, this game centers on deep, platonic relationships. These effects form the patterns that characters develop as they grow and progress. The more time spent with party members, the stronger the bonds grow. This opens up new Archetypes, giving you players more depth in strategy in battle.

The diversity of tribal characters is included in the story. Each brings their own unique perspective and abilities. In this way, it is personal and meaningful, and this relationship will also strengthen combat performance; new abilities and Archetypes will be unlocked as the relationship deepens. How you interact with your characters can directly impact your success in combat.
Final Words
While Metaphor: ReFantazio may only have seven core party members, the Archetype system allows for a high degree of customization, ensuring that the party doesn’t feel restricted. We’re not sure when we’ll add more party members, but what’s clear is that Metaphor: ReFantazio gives fans of this kind of RPG a rich experience.
At least, for now, players will look forward to their adventures with such a wonderful cast of characters and all the freedom they have to determine their role in battle.
